New Zealand Culture
At school we are studying culture. We are looking at traditioins, producol and beliefs.
In the New Zealand culture we have a Maori culture. This is where there is a marae for different tribes of the Maoris. Some of their producols are:
- Take shoes off inside the marae
- No one can walk above someones head
- You can’t lean over someone at the table
Some traditions are:
- Powhiri ( The welcoming to the marae)
- Heads bowed in powhiri ( Thinking of anceastors.)
- Wero challenge ( Tangata Whenua, People of the marae, Place a green stone down to ask the Manuhiri, Visitors if they want war.)
- Kai karanga ( A women is calling to seperate the spirits so that the Manuhiri has a clear way onto the marae.)
Beliefs:
- The Maori’s believe in many different gods.
- They have many different myths to explain nutural things on earth.
